Symplocarpus Foetidus, commonly known as skunk cabbage, is a low growing, foul-smelling plant that grows in wetlands of eastern North America. With the poor drainage from developments on the hill, to the blockage caused by beaver dams and fallen trees in the swap area, a lot of our farm is becoming flooded wetlands.

So what grows in these wetlands? Well, you may find many plant species, one that has recently begun to appear with this warm weather we have been experiencing, Skunk Cabbage! Although, it appears to have beauty in the colors, shape, and textures of it's above-ground bulb, it grows into a foul-smelling plant. This foul, skunk-like smell, is where Symplocarpus Foetidus gets it's more commonly know nickname, skunk cabbage!

Check in next month to see what else we will find growing in the wetlands! Name this!
